Working together to improve school attendance

Analysing absence and attendance data webinar

We recommend that you sign up to the new DfE ‘analysing attendance data to identify pupils who need additional support’ webinar, which will take place on 3rd November 2022.

It is the latest in the DfE’s effective practice attendance webinars where schools with good or improved attendance share their practice.

School Attendance Champion

As part of the changes with the ‘working together to improve school attendance’ guidance, all schools are expected to have a dedicated senior leader with overall responsibility for championing and improving attendance.

The attendance champion should have clearly assigned responsibilities which are identified within the attendance policy and escalation procedures.  The role is similar to the attendance lead that all schools in Warwickshire schools have.

Reminders

1. New guidance is now in place on the role of schools, trusts, governing bodies and local authorities.

2. Sign up to share your daily attendance data with the DfE.  65% of schools In England are now sharing.  It will become a requirement at some point this academic year.

3. Schools can now use a public data dashboard to compare themselves with up-to-date national, regional and local authority figures for pupil attendance and absence in England. This will be updated every 2 weeks. You can sign up to take part in research and give feedback to help the DfE develop the reports.

4. Attendance resources are available on the Education Huband Teaching Blogs

5. The code X code can no longer be used in the attendance register to record COVID-19 related absence.
