Colleagues,
The headteacher conference fast approaches. It should be a really useful day. If you haven't booked on yet you'll find details of how to do so in Heads Up.
In other news, and for your information, Education Services are moving from their current home within Community Directorate to the People Directorate, under Nigel Minns. This does not affect your current working relationships but it is an important development for the Council. Here's a message from the Chief Executive, Monica Fogarty for you:
Education Services
Dear Colleague,
I am writing to let you know about a structural move of the Education Service.
Education has been a recent focus for Government, particularly around the effects of the pandemic on children, young people, and adult learners over the past two years. The world of Education is also responding to the challenges and opportunities emerging from The Government's White Paper on Schools, along with the SEND Green Paper, both of which set out a direction of travel for the entire country.
In addition, this council has also conducted our own strategic review of Education Services recognising that improvements were needed to the way some elements of the Service were working and joining up across the wider council. As a result, we will be moving the Education Service to sit within the People Directorate, under Nigel Minns, Strategic Director for People. It makes sense to do this now in order to bring the collective focus on children back into a single location. Nigel is also the statutory post holder for the Director of Children's Services.
We intend that the move will take place from 1 July 2022. This change will not have any immediate effect on the working relationship you have with the council, with individual services or personnel. We will be working with you on the implications of the White Paper and I know that the headteacher conference provides us with an initial opportunity to gather your views.
If you have any questions regarding this change please do contact Chris Baird.
