New £600 premium for additional pupils taking advanced maths qualifications

The Department for Education (DfE) has announced the introduction of a new Advanced Maths Premium, which aims to increase the number of students studying maths after GCSE.  The fund will help schools and colleges to support more pupils to take advanced maths qualifications, including girls and disadvantaged pupils.  Schools and colleges can receive:

  • £600 for each additional pupil taking the 1-year AS maths or Core Maths qualification
  • £1,200 (based on £600 per year) for each additional pupil who takes the 2-year A-level in maths or further maths

New statutory guidance on how to support Children Looked After and previously Looked After

The DfE's new designated teacher guidance expands on the previous version, published in 2009. It includes more information about:

  • The role of the governing board
  • The role of the designated teacher in school
  • The role of the designated teacher in developing the personal education plan (PEP)

The updated guidance includes more on how the designated teacher should support both looked after and previously looked after children.  Some new sections are included which cover:

  • Special educational needs (SEN)
  • Mental health
  • Getting the most out of the Pupil Premium Plus (PP+) funding

The guidance also includes some 'top tips' on best practice.

Working Together to Safeguard Children Consultation Response

The DfE has published its response to the consultation on Working Together to Safeguard Children, the multi-agency guidance on safeguarding. The guidance has not yet been updated and you don't need to do anything in response to this.  To read the consultation response click the link below:
