Meeting the Needs of Children with English as an Additional Language in the Early Years

Ethnic Minority & Traveller Achievement Service (EMTAS)

Thursday 16th & Thursday 23rd September 2021       18.00 - 19:30

(must attend both sessions)

Virtual via Microsoft Teams

Young 3-5 year old children who are learning English as an Additional Language (EAL) and their language learning needs are sometimes overlooked in educational texts, as well as in schools and settings, because it is assumed that young children will 'pick up' English naturally and very quickly.”  (NALDIC)

This course will offer you opportunities to:

  • gain a better understanding of what is distinctive about EAL learners in the early years
  • have an increased awareness of the theoretical basis on which principles of best practice are based
  • identify effective practical strategies to support EAL development
  • develop ways to foster strong home-school partnerships to ensure continuity for the child

Training includes e-pack of resources

These sessions are funded by Warwickshire’s Lead Commissioner for Early Years
