Skills fact sheets for Careers Leaders and pupils

The Skills for Employment programme has recently published easy-to-access fact sheets showing job and other economic trends for each borough and district.

The fact sheets have been designed to help teachers advise pupils and parents on the local employment market, as well as being a useful tool to help schools, colleges and training providers to plan their future curriculum and provision to support the needs of the economy and their infographic style makes them easy to understand and use in the classroom.

One of the key facts illustrated are which jobs and sectors are forecast to grow and which are predicted to decline in the next few years.

You can download the fact sheets from the Skills for Employment section of the WCC website.

Health Sector workshop for pupils - 13 November

Health is a sector with significant skills shortages in the county so we are keen to enable young people and teachers to find out about the careers on offer.  Therefore, we are funding a half-day workshop introducing a range of occupations to pupils in a fun, interactive way.

The workshop will take place in both the morning and afternoon at the Nuneaton Academy on 13 November.  It will be repeated in the south of the county later in the year or in early 2020.

Full details have been sent to Careers Leaders, however if your school has not received the invitation or you would like more details you can contact glennrobinson@warwickshire.gov.uk

What does the new education inspection framework mean for further education and skills providers?

You may be interested to read one of Ofsted's latest blog posts from Paul Joyce, Deputy Director for Further Education and Skills, talking about the new education inspection framework (EIF) and what this means for further education and skills providers.

He talks about what this means in practice, including how inspectors will be spending their time and what will be expected of managers and staff during an inspection and the kinds of information they will need to provide.

The two key areas of change highlighted below are discussed in more detail in Paul's blog:

  • Shorter/clearer reports making it easier to understand each provider's strengths, areas for improvement and what makes them unique
  • Employer View and Learner View surveys revised in line with new framework - all providers are expected to make these online surveys available when notified of an inspection
