Support for Ukrainian families

National Literacy Trust's "Time Together" booklet is a colourful and easy-to-read guide that is full of suggestions for how parents can support their young child's learning at home. The booklet is now available in Ukrainian, Russian and English to help support the learning of Ukrainian families arriving in the UK.

For schools and settings

As teachers and practitioners you will be supporting the children and families you work with who are affected by the crisis in Ukraine. This could included those fleeing the war, those hosting refugee families, or any children finding news about the crisis upsetting and overwhelming.

National Literacy Trust have pulled together resources that will help you support wellbeing, combat the spread of disinformation, and welcome newly arrived families.

To find the resources please visit National Literacy Trust's website.

The benefits of outdoor learning in the early years

Alison Tebbs, Early Years Project Manager at the National Literacy Trust and Level 3 Forest School Leader reflects on the value of outdoor experience in the early years.

Research from T. Gill showed that outdoor learning boosts confidence, social skills, communication, motivation, physical skills, knowledge and understanding, while research from O’Brien and Murray found an increase in children’s self-esteem, self-confidence, ability to work cooperatively and positive attitude to learning following Forest School experience, an inspirational process that offers children, young people and adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment.
