Change for higher-level apprenticeships in league tables

The education secretary has revealed plans to change the school performance tables indicating a renewed focus from government on higher level technical qualifications.

The changes, published in an article in Schools Week on 6th December, will see apprenticeships at level 4 or above included in the percentage of schools’ pupils who carry on to higher education after completing their A Levels.

The current method of reporting means that the league tables only include the number and proportion of pupils who go on to higher education at university and not via an apprenticeship.

Schools Week explains: "The changes announced today will mean that a school will get an overall percentage score for the proportion of pupils taking up higher education – both at university or via an apprenticeship – and a breakdown of the types of institution or course they go on to."
